Psychology and Sociology Teacher

Personal

I am a qualified teacher with 15years experience (7 of which was as head of department). Whilst I have taught science all my teaching career, my degree is is Psychology and Sociology from the University of Northamptonshire and I have tutored both these subjects. I just love learning, there hasn't really been a year since leaving University where I have not been learning- having completed a foundation degree in Natural Sciences with the Open University, a National Professional Qualification in Middle and Senior leadership, a year of a masters on Business Leadership in Education, courses on use of social media and content creation. Every day should be a learning day, there is just so much knowledge out there to be enjoyed! I love animals having 4 chickens, 2 guinea pigs, fish, a tortoise, bearded dragon and a beautiful rescue dog. I also love growing my own fruit and vegetables and continue the never ending wait for an allotment!

Teaching Ethics

I left the teaching profession in 2023 because I strongly believe it is a broken system, that is being forced to have a blanket one size fits all approach which fails to recognise the human race as an amazing mix of unique individuals, with unique mindsets, needs and desired outcomes. This is why I have become a tutor, and support home educated students and students in school looking for more 1:1 support. I also strongly believe that education does open doors and just equips you better for being able to ask questions, not take information presented at face value and give you the skills to ask questions and find out more for yourself. Learning is never just about the content taught, but the skills gained and the ability to explore more yourself. This is why my courses have always suggested resources for extending learning beyond what the specification states.

Fun Fact

I was told at school to go to performing arts college as I would never amount to very much (this is not me saying performing arts are not a worthy subject to pursue, I myself went to theatre school as a teenager in my spare time and it helped make me the person I am today- this was my science teachers view!). I then went on to not only teach science, but become the head of department of that very school where I was told this! Never let anyone put you down, tell you what you can or can't be, if they won't support you, find someone or somewhere that will, or do it yourself through these online opportunities!
